Camera Angle Review of Avengers: Infinity War
Movie: Avengers: Infinity War (2017)
The sheer size of the spacecraft crashing into New York City represents the literal and metaphorical gravity of the situation. Thanos's children show no remorse or care for the well being of the people they very well might be killing as long as it results in their father obtaining the necessary stones for the Infinity Gauntlet.
Director: Joe and Anthony Russo
Producer: Kevin Feige
As someone without easy access to movie streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, me finding this movie available for free on Xfinity On Demand came as a complete shock at first. As a fan of action movies and the Marvel Franchise since Iron Man 3, Infinity war has a special place in my heart. Not only is it an Avengers movie with an incredible talented cast of actors such as Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Elizabeth Olsen. The use of Thanos as the main protagonist really subverts the "all-powerful villain that must be stopped at all costs trope."
Oh and spoilers if you haven't seen this amazing film yet
The first scene in the movie that I would like to comment on is the beginning of the New York City fight.
The next scene is the confrontation Peter Quill (Star Lord) has with Thanos
Star Lord in this situation is easily capable of just attacking Thanos now and freeing Gamora but is too fearful of the potential consequences. The shot also one of many that showcases Thanos's intimidating height, showing how small star lord is compared to Thanos could be used to represent how taking down thanos will require more than himself.
The next scene is in the final act of the movie where after Thanos has obtained all of the Infinity stones he uses the Infinity gauntlet to cut the human population of Earth by half.
Tony Stark (right) is attempting to console Peter Parker as he starts to disintegrate. The low angle shot used here is to evoke a feeling of hopelessness and victimhood. Because at the time no one has much knowledge on how to bring back those who have been "snapped" and Tony Stark, seeing Peter as an apprentice or even as a son, is completely distraught with what has just happened.
